Roar-some dino sculpture coming to Gunwharf Quays!
See the sculpture up close on the Gunwharf Quay's waterfront from November
Southsea’s famous Luna Dinosaur is coming to Gunwharf Quays waterfront this autumn with an exciting augmented reality experience the whole family can enjoy!
This stunning bronze sculpture, crafted by world-renowned artists Ivan Morison and Heather Peak of Studio Morison, pays tribute to their beloved 2010 Luna Park sculpture, fondly remembered before it burned down on Southsea Common. The new piece features a bronze version of the original, affectionately known as ‘The Southsea Dinosaur,’ proudly perched atop a fossil Portland stone plinth. At 1.4 meters tall, it may be smaller, but it's brimming with history, memories, and meaning!
And here’s where the magic begins – you can scan the plaque on the plinth to unlock an augmented reality experience that brings the original 53-foot-tall dino roaring back to life on your phone.
This incredible piece of public art will be on display at Gunwharf Quays for the next two years while renovations are carried out at Southsea. How roar-some is that?!
