More about Aspex

Located behind the Loch Fyne restaurant, Aspex is Portsmouth’s leading contemporary art gallery, boasting a delightful café within its historic setting of the Vulcan Building.

Groups are welcome by prior arrangement. Also open on Bank Holiday Mondays. Hours are sometimes extended during the school holidays; please check Aspex website for details.

Aspex has a 35-year history of supporting emerging artists, showcasing both local and international contemporary exhibitions. Since relocating to Gunwharf Quays in 2006, their ever-changing programme has expanded to include the likes of 'Emergency', a biennial open submission show featuring the work of ten artists selected from nearly 400 entries.

The gallery possesses a nationally recognised participation programme, catering for toddlers through to people with dementia. Their weekly 'Family Saturdays' sessions offer free arts and crafts activities to visitors of Gunwharf Quays. They have also introduced a specialist series of artist's talks as part of their artist development programme.
