The friendly team and unique atmosphere of the Vernon building provides the ideal setting for any occasion. For the casual diner whilst out shopping at Gunwharf Quays they can savour the relaxed, chill-out atmosphere of leather sofas and open fireplaces that combine to make this the perfect place to unwind with a traditional ploughmans lunch with cheddar cheese, pate or ham and a glass of ale followed by a latte coffee and delicious dessert. The extensive food menu includes everything from shepherds pie and beef lasagne to classic fish pie or whole lemon sole.
As Gunwharf Quays only traditional pub, the Old Customs House is located in the grand old building that once served as the administrative headquarters for HMS Vernon. This shore-based facility was at one time the home of the Admiralty's Torpedo, Mining and Electrical Training Establishment. The building was first constructed in 1790 and is a scheduled monument. This is a thoroughly modern operation inside which serves a varied traditional menu and contemporary English fayre in an inviting and relaxed atmosphere.
