Looking after the environment and being sustainable in the way we work is incredibly important.
At Gunwharf Quays, we are committed to make changes which reduce our impact on the environment, and constantly looking at improving the way we work, with this end goal in mind. Here are just a few of the ways that we have already started to make a difference:
- 100% of the electricity we use is renewable, coming from sources such as wind and solar (it powers the lighting, lifts, escalators, car parks and more). We also have over 800 solar panels on the centre's roof!
- Over 80% of all waste is recycled, with zero waste heading to landfill. You may have seen the coffee cup recycling bins at our centre – these have helped us recycle more than 150,000 cups.
- We won a Green Apple award for environmental best practice.
- We now have 12 electric vehicle charging points available for our guests to use, with more set to be installed soon.
- We upgraded many of our cleaning and waste machines, and carried out a review to our cleaning practices to minimise the environmental impact.
- Our brands are involved in supporting our sustainability efforts, and efficiently sort their waste to support our recycling scheme. Also, a handy tip for your next visit: many of our restaurants support the Refill Me campaign, which means they will top up your reusable water bottle free of charge!
- 15% of the gas purchased by Gunwharf Quays is biogas and is used by many of the restaurants on site for cooking.
- As part of our biodiversity programme, we have created a meadow and planted 200sqm of wildflowers and installed two hibernaculums for bugs and insects.
