We're celebrating the Year of the Rat at Gunwharf Quays, with a fantastic weekend of festivities and fun for all the family. Join us on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd February and experience authentic Chinese celebrations, performances from the Shaolin Temple and incredible offers across the centre... we've got a lot going on.
Throughout the day we'll be handing out a limited number of red envelopes, containing exclusive discount vouchers to use across stores throughout the centre. There's something for everyone, so get here early to get your hands on an envelope to make sure you grab a bargain.
From 2.00pm on Saturday we'll also have a dragon weaving its way around the centre and on both Saturday and Sunday hungry lions dancing outside some of our outlet stores on their way to watch the incredible Kung Fu performances in Central Square! Come down and join us for this exciting Chinese New Year 2020 event, and don't forget to plan your journey to the centre.
The Year of the Rat is the first zodiac animal. According to one myth the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived to his party. The Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride. Then, just as they arrived at the finish line, Rat jumped down and landed ahead of Ox, becoming first.
Being the start of the zodiac, 2020 is considered a year of new beginnings and renewals.
On both days, the Emirates Spinnaker Tower will be going red in celebration too!
