Gunwharf Quays will be supporting this year’s National Autism Society’s Quiet Hour between the 5th – 12th October.
For autistic people, the world can seem full of too much information. As such, we’re working with our shops here at Gunwharf Quays to organise an Autism Hour and take simple steps for 60 minutes that lead to a more autism-friendly world. As such, our stores will be turning off their music and dimming their lights (where possible) between 4pm – 5pm Monday to Friday, Saturdays from 9am – 10am and Sunday from 10am – 11am. The campaign aims to challenge the myths, misconceptions and stereotypes that contribute to 79% of autistic people feeling socially isolated and 64% of autistic people avoiding going to the shops. As such, we hope you’ll understand why these changes are being made and support us in helping people with autism feel more welcome.
Our Guest Services teams will be wearing Hidden Disability Lanyards and giving them away to Guests who may need additional help whilst visiting the centre.
This campaign is about raising awareness, and if you’d like to find out more, we’d recommend you visit the National Autistic Society Website: https://www.autism.org.uk/
